Buying guide

How to choose a personal branding agency without getting sold fog

Most agency pitches sound the same until you ask operational questions. Ignore the mood board. Ask who the buyer is, what is public, who owns strategy, what happens to your time, and what is guaranteed. Then see who answers without theatre.

Who is the buyer - and will they say no

A serious agency has a fit filter. Ours is blunt: about $1M+ revenue, an offer that already sells, a founder who wants an operator, and a multi-year horizon. Not overnight viral. Not cheapest. Not videographer-only.

If every lead is a yes, you are buying a sales process, not a partner who will protect the work. Ask who they turn down and why. Vague answers are a signal.

Is there named proof - not anonymous screenshots

Ask for named case studies with real trajectories. Eksplode publishes work with people like Mike Thurston (0 to 581.9K followers), Rachel Godfrey (34K to 201K), Joss Mooney (22.3K to 93.2K), and Dylan Ferguson (0 to 10.4K YouTube subscribers). Portfolio cumulative context: 50+ brands, 10k+ videos, 1.5B+ views, 1M+ followers.

Proof should survive a Google search. If the only evidence is blurry graphs and “confidential clients,” you are guessing.

Is pricing public and is strategy included

Public pricing kills bait-and-switch. Eksplode publishes Short-Form Engine at AED 25,000, YouTube Engine at AED 35,000, and Complete Engine at AED 55,000. You should know whether that number includes positioning, scripts, production, editing, publishing, and analytics - or just cuts.

If strategy is “extra,” you are buying production capacity. If scripts are on you, you are still the creative director. Ask for the operating list in writing.

Founder time, minimum term, and the real guarantee

Ask how filming is scheduled. We batch around your calendar with scripts approved before the shoot. Goal: maximum output from minimum founder time. If the model needs you every week for unstructured filming, price the hours honestly.

Ask about the minimum term. Ours is three months. Ask what is guaranteed. We guarantee delivery and work toward targets set in week one; if agreed targets are not met by day 90, work continues at no extra charge until they are. Nobody serious guarantees a follower number as a product.

Questions

What should I ask a personal branding agency before signing?

Ask who they turn down, whether pricing is public, whether strategy and scripts are included, how much founder time filming takes, what the minimum term is, and what is guaranteed. Also ask for named case studies you can verify. Soft answers on any of those are a reason to walk.

Should a personal branding agency publish its prices?

It helps. Public retainers force clarity about what is included. Eksplode publishes Short-Form Engine, YouTube Engine, and Complete Engine in AED so the conversation starts on scope, not mystery discounts. Hidden pricing often hides a thin offer.

What results should a personal branding agency guarantee?

Delivery of the agreed system and progress against targets you set together - not a fantasy follower count. At Eksplode, targets are set in week one; if agreed targets are not met by day 90, work continues at no extra charge until they are.

How do I know if I am the right client for a premium agency?

If your offer already sells, you are roughly at $1M+ revenue, you want an operator rather than a coach, and you think in years, you are in the lane. If you want cheap clips or overnight virality, you are not - and a good agency should say so.
